Today was all about taking care of making medical arrangements. Early this morning I spoke with our transplant coordinator to confirm where we are going to get Philip’s blood drawn in Charlotte. This may not seem like a big deal but the truth is it is important that we get the results to UNC Chapel Hill in a timely manner. UNC has a laboratory that they prefer; however, it is our choice. I needed to find a place where the person doing the draw is very experienced. It is not easy to get Philip’s blood. He has many black and blue marks where people have tried to get blood out of his arms. Philip and I ran down to the lab to interview the phlebotomist. It turns out she has been drawing blood for over 20 years. We will get up early tomorrow and get him to the lab before he has anything to eat or drink. He also needs the 2nd half the hepatitis inoculation. Finally, we are leaving for Chapel Hill Monday so I needed to make arrangements for that trip.
I just read the thank you from Philip and I just want to say to him, “you are our son; we love you very much and want to do everything we can for you. You have made many accommodations in order to get a transplant; your eating has changed, your activities have had to change, many of the tests and procedures are painful and yet you have made it as easy as possible for all involved. You remain the gracious and kind person you have always been.”

As I get older, I learn to appreciate even more my life and all the blessings I have. I have challenges, I think we all do, and I am working so hard to appreciate even the challenges. You, your Mom, your Dad are truly an inspiration to me and my family. I am so sorry for all the challenges you have in your life, but I will say that you are not alone. We think and pray for you every day. And I want to personally thank you for showing that life is precious and everyone matters no matter what their situation in life. You inspire me to be a better person, father and husband. Hashem has blessed you in so many ways too!!! What a support system you have. You are so cared about by so many and I can not imagine 2 more loving and supportive parents than yours. I am sure you are so proud of them as are we. Lastly, get better quickly!!
