What a day it has been…I slept through the first call from the doctor. When I finally reached him he advised me that they were releasing Philip so that he could travel to UNC tomorrow. I was a bit shocked considering what Philip looked like last night. The physicians felt that the first priority was to get him to UNC and they thought if they gave him pain medication, he would be fine. He was able to do a little walking in the house and this afternoon, so I have to assume they know what they are doing. He really looks terrible, frail and weak. Perhaps a good nights sleep with help that. I hate to admit that I am a little worried about getting on the road alone with him tomorrow. The good news is that are many communities along the way if I need any help along the way. I can stop and ask for help.

Testimonials
As an academic, I tend to do major research before every medical procedure, from giving birth and nursing, to most recently, rotator cuff surgery for my shoulder. People grimaced and told me that this was one of the most painful and debilitating surgeries of them all. I was so fortunate to find Lorrie Klemons, who immediately provided me with a list of items I could do to prepare for the surgery, for the family to help me through the time, as well as clever and simple ways to make life easier and more manageable with a whole assortment of tips and ideas. Lorrie's list and expert advice, as well as her warm and loving support, got me through a very difficult time. One year later I am pain-free, fully mobile, and extremely happy. What a wonderful resource!!

I am continuing to pray hard for Philip. He amazes me with his “brevity, courage, AND his continually uplifted spirit.” Please give my friend Philip my love and tell him he is in my daily thoughts and prayers. I pray the trip to UNC won’t be too hard on him, OR on you! God Bless, Lois
My thoughts and prayers are with my dear friend Philip, daily. He’s so brave and courageous!! He is a very special and unique young man! I hope the road trip to UNC goes well and there are no snags. God Bless, Lois
I’m sorry about two notes. I actually thought that the first one got deleted. Sorry, Lois
Hi Randy,
I hope all goes smoothly on the trip to UNC and that Phil will start feeling better soon. As you know, he is always in our prayers. Thinking of you and your family. Love you, Hanah
Randy,
I had no idea what pain Phil’s been in. I hate that part of this ordeal the most. He is such an inspiration to everyone. He spreads his optimism around, and you can’t help but to become optimistic too. I know it’s hardest for you, but you continue to be a pillar of strength. We are sending you all of our best wishes for a safe and successful trip. You are always in our thoughts.
Love Henry and Jocie
Hi, Randy: I hope that you got to Chapel Hill ok. Call me if you have any time/energy. We’re all praying.
Dear Randy,
I have been up north for several weeks visiting my daughter. Did not have access to a computer and just today read your poignant messages about Philip. What an inspiring young man he is. I am always touched by his sensitivity and humor when I meet him.
I know that I join a legion of friends in wishing Philip all of G-d’s special blessings. May he recover completely to enjoy many years of good health.
Warmest good wishes to you and Shelley on this difficult journey. May G-d be with you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts with all your friends.
Blessings,
Tova
Randy, I am watching the miners in Chile be rescued right now and am amazed at the faith and hope they maintained during their ordeal. It is so parallel to what Phil is going through. While each day may find him a bit deeper into the “hole” of liver disease, he displays the epitome of faith and hope… and courage. May HaShem continue to bless with with optimism and grace. As always, I love you all and will continue to pray.
Lorrie
