We thought today was going to be the day they would put in the central line and pump. When I arrived at the hospital early this morning, they were busy deciding how they were going to get the medication into Philip. It seems that it is a good idea to put in what is called a picc line, in his arm so they make sure Philip doesn’t have a negative reaction to the medication. They had two picc teams come down and examine Philips veins and it was determined that the veins in his upper arm get smaller instead of larger and they could not put in a picc line. The next step was to determine how they could begin getting the medication to Philip before the central line. The Attending Physician had to gather the information, decide what was best, and then get legal release from the hospital to do an alternative protocol. A regular IV was used to get the medication into Philip. They will watch for negative reactions through the night. Tomorrow morning he is scheduled for the insertion of a central line and pump.
Philip is tired but maintains his humor and good nature. This is not an easy time but I am so proud of his strength and resolve to get better. His determination keeps him going and helps me as well.
Hi

wish I could be spending some time with you at UNC. Life just keeps getting in the way of the important stuff. I know that Phil is in good hands and you know that he is in our prayers and thoughts every moment. I need you back in Charlotte. I miss you and am feeling the pain of both of you. SG had her surgery yesterday and is supposed to come home tonight. I heard that all went well as per her spouse. I have to maintain patient confidentiality!!! Let’s put in a good prayer for her, too!
Love you. Hope to see you both home soon.

As I always maintain, Philip is a courageous young man!!!! He is also so good natured, kind, loving and compassionate. He worries more about others than himself. I am so glad he calls me friend, as I do with him!!! I pray for Phil daily and will NOT cease!! He DOES have such a good sense of humor, too. All of this is NOT easy, but, true to himself, he is more concerned about his family and friends. God Bless Philip!!! BigHugz, ~~Lois
